Ascending | Artist: Ren Shimin | Design Development, Fabrication & Installation: ODE

Located within the African Union Conference Center, Ascending was created by artist Ren Shimin. Centered on the map of the African continent, the work features a rising golden form encircling the landmass and incorporates 55 stars, representing the 55 member states of the African Union. Through this symbolic composition, the mural reflects a shared vision of unity, cooperation, and collective progress across the continent.

As a significant public artwork within the conference center, Ascending responds to both the cultural identity of Africa and the aspirations of a rapidly developing era. The combination of gilded bronze and white marble creates a visual presence that is both dignified and enduring, establishing a meaningful dialogue between art, architecture, and place.

ODE was responsible for the design development, fabrication, and installation of the work, translating the artist’s vision into a permanent public artwork fully integrated within this internationally significant venue.
