Shuiguan Great Wall Public Art Project | Lead Designer: Yang Ming | Curated, Fabricated & Installed by ODE

Located at the Shuiguan section of the Great Wall in Beijing, this public art project draws inspiration from the historical legacy of General Qi Jiguang. The artwork was designed by Yang Ming, with ODE responsible for project planning, design development, fabrication, and installation.

Presented as a large-scale bronze relief mural, the work transforms historical narratives and cultural memory into a contemporary spatial experience. Through layered imagery and sculptural composition, it reinterprets the enduring spirit of the Great Wall and its significance within Chinese history.

From concept development to fabrication and on-site installation, ODE managed the entire realization process, bringing together traditional craftsmanship and contemporary public art to create a lasting cultural landmark.

Jiguang, the reliefs meticulously depict classic scenes such as surveying and site selection, quarrying stones, transporting materials and building the wall. With vivid figures and a grand momentum, they not only show the wisdom and hard work of ancient craftsmen, but also highlight the profound heritage of the Great Wall as a national treasure, making them a representative cultural landscape of the Shuiguan Great Wall.
