“Hidden Stone · Emptiness”｜Architect & Artist Liang Jianguo｜Production by ODE

“Hidden Stone · Emptiness” is a representative installation from architect and artist Liang Jianguo’s Taihu Stone series, permanently installed at the Yixuxi Art Museum in Beijing.

Rooted in the spirit of traditional Chinese scholar’s stone culture, the work draws inspiration from the Taihu stone aesthetics of “slimness, texture, perforation, and transparency.” Through an exploration of emptiness, stillness, and the coexistence of solidity and void, the piece transforms Eastern philosophical thinking into a contemporary spatial art language.

Rejecting the heaviness of traditional stone materials, the installation adopts hand-woven metal mesh and mixed-media sculptural techniques to reconstruct the ethereal presence of natural rock formations. Its translucent structure allows light and shadow to move fluidly through the surface, creating a layered spatial relationship between presence and absence.

With years of experience in mixed-media production and spatial fabrication, ODE realized the artist’s conceptual vision through structural development, sculptural forming, surface arrangement, and on-site installation, transforming an abstract artistic idea into a tangible contemporary spatial artwork.
