The red spiral staircase, dubbed “Traces of Time,” at Qingdao Ruoqi Hotel comprises a high-strength steel frame clad in weather-resistant, fluorocarbon-sprayed red metal panels. Accompanied by white support columns and inlaid LED light strips, it seamlessly blends structural robustness with striking visual appeal. Drawing inspiration from the cliffside plank roads of Maijishan Grottoes and echoing Qingdao’s iconic urban symbol, the “Wind of May,” its vibrant red spiral silhouette cuts through the building’s austere modernity. Functionally, it serves as a vital vertical thoroughfare linking diverse amenities including the hotel and art galleries. More than a passageway, it stands as a landmark public art installation that embodies urban culture, bridges art and daily life, and has firmly established itself as a cultural beacon in Laoshan District, Qingdao.
