Children Going into the Mountains

Children Going into the Mountains

Public Art Installation | Weathering Steel Interactive Artwork | Urban Art Festival

Children Going into the Mountains | Artist: Liu Yang (dLAtelier) | Fabrication & Installation: ODE

Children Going into the Mountains is an interactive public artwork created by architect Liu Yang, founder of dLAtelier, for the 2023 Shanghai Urban Space Art Season. Located along Shanghai’s West Bund waterfront, the project was fabricated and installed by ODE.

The work is formed by two weathering steel structures that open outward to create a V-shaped space, with a swing suspended between them for public use. Combining the strength of industrial materials with direct public participation, the installation encourages interaction and transforms into a shared place for gathering, movement, and experience within the urban landscape.

ODE was responsible for the detailed design development, metal fabrication, and on-site installation, bringing the artist’s vision into the public realm.
