“Sky · Endless Vitality”|Beijing Yanfang Metro Line
Like an expanding urban sky unfolding above the station, “Sky · Endless Vitality” transforms the metro space into an immersive artistic environment through layers of gradient blue dome structures.
The installation was created by the team of Zhang Nan and Guo Liming from the China Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), with the ODE team responsible for the full development and realization process. Composed of multiple concentric blue rings, the dome integrates curved aluminum panels with embedded starry LED lights, allowing the central blue disc to radiate outward like expanding star trails, creating a deep and atmospheric spatial experience.
The blue palette echoes the technological identity of the Yanfang Line as China’s first fully automated driverless metro line, while also incorporating the Eastern spatial philosophy of “round heaven and square earth.”
To achieve the layered “sky gradient” effect, the ODE team adopted an art-grade fluorocarbon spraying process, precisely controlling the color transitions across the curved elevated structure to fully realize the original artistic vision within the built space.
