The Source

The Source

“The Source” draws its core inspiration from Yichang’s identity as the “World Hydropower Capital,” seamlessly integrating three central themes: the landscapes of the Three Gorges, hydropower energy, and the concept of circular coexistence. The work’s primary form is a minimalist circular structure, symbolizing the cyclical nature of energy and endless renewal, echoing the logic of hydropower: “source – transformation – regeneration.” The wind-driven elements and dynamic lighting within the ring materialize the dynamism of water and electric currents, conveying the vitality and sustainability of green energy.

Rooted in the earth and reaching upward, the sculpture embodies Yichang’s reliance on its natural endowments to drive urban development through clean energy. A beam of light pierces the center and extends forward, symbolizing both “light as hope” and the idea that hydropower illuminates the city’s future. Through a harmonious blend of the tangible and intangible, and the static and dynamic, the piece serves as an artistic translation of the grandeur of the Three Gorges’ nature and engineering, while also acting as a visual manifesto of the city’s culture and commitment to green development, becoming a spiritual symbol at Yichang’s gateway.
